Illuminate Every Learner: Colorado Teacher Pipeline
Place and support teachers in shortage classrooms—strengthening Title I instruction and Colorado’s future workforce.
Description
The campaign will expand and stabilize Colorado’s educator pipeline at a moment of critical shortages in school leadership and in Special Education, STEM, Elementary, and Early Childhood classrooms. By acting now, Teach For America Colorado will help ensure more students—especially in low-income communities and rural districts—experience consistent, high-quality instruction that supports academic progress and long-term economic mobility.
Campaign funding will underwrite a comprehensive recruitment-and-retention package for new teachers, including $4,000–$7,500 in financial support per new teacher, paid summer training housing, rigorous coaching and mentorship oriented toward student academic growth, and high-impact talent matching for educators poised for leadership. The campaign will place, coach, and develop 125 first- and second-year teachers, with a target of 97% persisting through the end of the 2026–27 school year, reaching 12,000+ students daily in Title I schools.
The campaign will also accelerate recruitment and placement in rural counties and grow the pipeline serving Aurora, Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo, while securing a partnership agreement with Summit County to enable placements in 2027–28. Major donors will play a catalytic role toward the $500,000 goal and receive clear reporting on teacher placements and persistence, student growth, and progress on the Summit County partnership.
Why This Moment Matters
Colorado’s economic future depends on a strong educator workforce, yet schools across the state face critical shortages in school leadership and in Special Education, STEM, Elementary, and Early Childhood classrooms. Each year these vacancies persist, students lose access to consistent, high-quality instruction—reducing academic progress now and weakening Colorado’s long-term workforce competitiveness.
The urgency is greatest in low-income communities, including Denver, Aurora, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and rural districts, where systemic barriers continue to limit long-term economic mobility. Opportunity gaps begin early and compound over time: Colorado ranks among the lowest nationally in K–12 funding per student, and students from low-income backgrounds are three times more likely to attend schools with chronic teacher vacancies or inexperienced educators. Waiting allows these gaps to widen—translating into lower postsecondary readiness, reduced workforce participation, and fewer viable career pathways.
This campaign matters now because timely philanthropic leadership can interrupt that trajectory. Teach For America Colorado will strengthen a pipeline of educators and school leaders who accelerate student learning and expand access to opportunity—helping stabilize classrooms sooner and building the talent base Colorado’s future workforce requires.
What This Campaign Can Unlock
If this campaign succeeds, Teach For America Colorado will expand the pipeline of well-supported educators in shortage content areas and strengthen the day-to-day instructional experience for students in Title I schools across Colorado. The result will be more classrooms led by prepared, coached teachers—reaching 12,000+ students daily—and more consistent, high-quality instruction that supports student academic growth.
Campaign funding will underwrite a comprehensive recruitment-and-retention package for new teachers, including $4,000–$7,500 in financial support per new teacher, paid teacher housing during summer training, rigorous coaching and mentorship oriented toward student academic growth, and high-impact talent matching for teachers poised for leadership roles. Continued evaluation and innovation of TFA’s coaching program will ensure teachers begin each school day with the preparation and tailored professional resources needed to persist and deliver excellent instruction.
This investment will also accelerate recruitment and placement in rural counties and grow the pipeline of teachers, tutors, and leaders serving Aurora, Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo. With philanthropic partners leading this effort, thousands more students will gain access to excellent education and, ultimately, greater economic mobility.
What This Campaign Delivers
Teacher Recruitment and Development
The campaign will place, coach, and develop 125 first- and second-year teachers, with a target of 97% persisting through the end of the 2026–27 school year.
Student Academic Outcomes
The campaign will target measurable student growth in Teach For America Colorado classrooms: at least 55% of students in reporting TFA classrooms will meet or exceed growth targets from Fall to Winter 2026–27, exceeding national average growth expectations.
Rural Expansion
The campaign will secure a partnership agreement with Summit County to enable teacher placements in 2027–28. Recruitment and onboarding for the 2027–28 cohort will begin during the grant period in Fall 2026, with training and hiring beginning in April 2026.
Tracking and Reporting
Progress will be tracked against the metrics above (teacher placements and persistence; student growth from Fall to Winter 2026–27 in reporting TFA classrooms; and execution of a Summit County partnership agreement). Donors will receive periodic written updates summarizing progress toward each target and a year-end report consolidating results against the stated outcomes.
Partnership Opportunity
