SAFEhouse for the Performing Arts (often styled SAFEhouse Arts) is a San Francisco-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that incubates new performing art by providing rehearsal and presentation opportunities, residencies, mentorship, and production support. SAFEhouse produces AIRspace, a historic residency program for queer performing artists; SAFEhouse’s stewardship preserved and continued this longstanding queer residency, helping ensure continuity for LGBTQA+ performance makers in the Bay Area.
Regional festival and grant support
SAFEhouse produces the West Wave Dance Festival and, as a recognized arts organization, has received project support from public funders (including a California Arts Council Impact Projects award in the 2020–21 cycle) to support community arts programming in San Francisco.
