About SON OF SEMELE ENSEMBLE INC

Son of Semele Ensemble is a Los Angeles–based nonprofit ensemble theatre company founded and long led by Artistic Director Matthew McCray. The company produces contemporary and genre‑defying plays, creation festivals, youth enrichment programs, and occasional film adaptations of stage work, and operates as an itinerant producing organization following the relocation from its longtime Silver Lake black‑box venue.

The organization serves diverse Los Angeles audiences through ticketed productions, new‑work festivals, and education initiatives (including a summer youth program). In recent years Son of Semele has continued active programming, received public arts funding, and maintained annual IRS filings indicating ongoing operations and program revenue.

Son of Semele is known for regional and Los Angeles premieres of challenging contemporary playwrights, collaborative development of new works, and cultivating an artistic ensemble model that engages dozens of artists each season.
