NEW BEGINNINGS CAT RESCUE
With respect and compassion for all cats, New Beginnings Cat Rescue promotes lifelong relationships between people and animals, providing foster care for each precious life until adopted into a good home. We strive to work with animal control and other rescue groups to save homeless cats in our community.
About NEW BEGINNINGS CAT RESCUE
New Beginnings Cat Rescue (NBCR) is a 501(c)(3), volunteer-run, no-kill cat rescue founded in 2005 that operates a foster-based model and rescues cats—with emphasis on last-chance and special-needs animals—from Garland Animal Control. The group places animals in foster homes and operates an in-store adoption presence at the Garland PetSmart adoption center. Over the last 2–3 years NBCR has continued steady operations as a small community rescue: recent Form 990-EZ filings show annual revenues in the roughly $70k–$85k range (2022–2024) and ongoing expenditures for medical care and placements. The organization also supports spay/neuter, trap-neuter-release (TNR) and low-cost medical assistance partnerships to address local cat overpopulation and help keep pets with families. NBCR is known for taking medically fragile or behaviorally challenged cats that are less likely to survive at animal control, working with partner clinics and national organizations to fund and provide treatment, and maintaining long-term community adoption and education programs.
Notable achievements
Long-term in-store adoption program
Volunteers have staffed an in-store adoption center at the Garland PetSmart since July 2004, providing a steady public adoption pipeline and visibility for foster cats.
Sustained community-scale operations
Operated as an all-volunteer rescue since 2005 with consistent annual filings and multi-year revenues in the small-rescue range, enabling ongoing medical care, fostering, and placements.
Funded medical support for special-needs animals
Secured outside grant support and emergency funding to pay for veterinary treatment of medically fragile rescues (for example, assistance used to cover treatment for a young kitten with a broken leg).
