About COLORADO FEDERATION OF ANIMAL WELFARE AGENCIES
The Colorado Federation of Animal Welfare Agencies (EIN 03-0385844) is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization (tax-exempt since 2002) that historically served as a statewide membership and convening body for animal welfare organizations, shelters, rescues, and animal control agencies in Colorado.
In 2020 the Colorado Federation of Animal Welfare Agencies merged with the Colorado Association of Animal Control Officers to form the Animal Welfare Association of Colorado (AWAC), and the merged organization continues CFAWA’s core work: professional development, policy advocacy, statewide collaboration, and sharing operational resources for animal welfare professionals.
Through annual conferences, committee-led trainings and legislative engagement, the organization focuses on improving animal care and control practices across Colorado and strengthening the network of shelters, rescues, and municipal animal services.
Notable achievements
Historic 2020 merger
Facilitated a strategic merger with the Colorado Association of Animal Control Officers to form the Animal Welfare Association of Colorado (AWAC), consolidating training and advocacy resources for the field.
Sustained statewide conference
Delivered the Colorado Animal Welfare Conference as an annual professional convening that brings national and regional experts to Colorado for trainings, leadership development, and peer networking.
Policy influence and representation
Regularly represents the sector in state-level policy processes and task forces, providing technical input and testimony on legislation and regulatory matters affecting animal welfare and control.
