The Hawai‘i Coalition Against Sexual Assault (HCASA) exists to foster relationships between survivors of sexual violence and service deliverers, improve treatment services, and spread awareness of Aloha practices that deepen connection to self, others, and the planet.

About Hawaii Coalition Against Sexual Assault

HCASA is the statewide coalition that supports and coordinates sexual-assault treatment centers and survivor services across Hawai‘i’s islands. It provides training, public education, multilingual outreach campaigns, and resource development while centering Hawaiian values and culturally responsive approaches.

In recent years HCASA has led statewide Sexual Assault Awareness Month campaigns, produced educational resources (including an accessible film trilogy and outreach toolkits), and worked with partner centers on hotline coordination and outreach to underserved language communities. Public tax filings and nonprofit profiles show HCASA operates with modest annual budgets and files Form 990-series returns to report finances and activities.

HCASA also serves as a resource and technical-assistance hub to island-level providers, participates in state planning (including STOP/VAWA implementation efforts), and partners with government and health agencies on prevention, training, and survivor support initiatives.

Notable achievements

Statewide coordination of island treatment centers

Established and sustains a network linking four island-based sexual-assault treatment centers and hotlines, enabling coordinated public education, referral pathways, and shared best practices across Kaua‘i, O‘ahu, Maui, and Hawai‘i Island.

Accessible education resources and campaigns

Developed and distributed the "Crossing the Line" film trilogy, multilingual outreach materials, and ASL-accessible content to expand prevention education and reach Deaf and non-English-speaking communities.

Secured competitive federal/state grant support

Successfully obtained grant funding and project awards that supported statewide initiatives (including projects funded through federal Office on Violence Against Women grants and state STOP planning), strengthening training, outreach, and survivor services.
