About Centro Humanitario Para Los Trabajadores (Centro de los Trabajadores / El Centro)
Centro Humanitario Para Los Trabajadores (now branded Centro de los Trabajadores or El Centro) is Denver’s worker center founded in 2002 that provides workforce development, worker-rights education, leadership development and direct hiring access for day laborers, domestic workers and other low-wage immigrant workers.
The organization runs workforce and integration programs, a legal defense clinic and community-based mental-health and wraparound services, and in recent years has expanded member-led organizing and newcomer supports (Bienvenidos a Denver) in response to migration and workplace safety needs.
Notable achievements
Established Colorado’s worker center (founded 2002)
Founded in 2002 and operating an indoor worker center since 2006, the organization created a long-standing community space for day laborers and domestic workers in Denver.
Legal and policy partnerships
Developed sustained partnerships with universities, legal aid organizations and state agencies to pursue wage recovery, worker safety and systemic advocacy on behalf of members.
Program expansion for newcomers and well-being
In the last few years El Centro expanded Bienvenidos a Denver and the Community Worker Care program to respond to increased migration and to provide trauma-informed wellness and integration services.
