About FLUX FACTORY INC

Flux Factory (FLUX FACTORY INC) is an artist-run, donor-facing 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Long Island City, Queens. The organization operates a formal Artist-in-Residence program, public exhibitions, and education/collaborative initiatives that prioritize community access and compensation for participating artists. Founded in 1994 and incorporated as a nonprofit in 1999, Flux relocated to its current Long Island City facility in 2009 and purchased permanent spaces in 2021 to secure long-term operations. The organization runs roughly 75 public multidisciplinary events annually, selects about 40 Artists-in-Residence each year, operates a ~9,000 sq ft building with 16 private studios and multiple shared workspaces, and produces several group exhibitions and public programs (including seasonal programming on Governors Island and the Rhizome Project for BIPOC artists).

Permanent headquarters acquired (2021)

Flux Factory purchased two spaces in 2021 (with municipal support) that secured a long-term home for its residency program and public gallery, enabling organizational stability and program expansion.

Large-scale Artist-in-Residence program

Flux runs a formal residency serving approximately 40 artists annually, providing studio space, shared fabrication facilities, professional development, and commissioning roughly 100 multidisciplinary artworks per year; the organization has hosted hundreds of artists and produced hundreds of exhibitions since its founding.

Governors Island seasons and public reach

Flux has served as an Organization-in-Residence on Governors Island (multi-season engagements in the last several years), producing exhibitions, Flux Saturdays and public events that draw thousands of visitors and expand Flux’s public programming footprint beyond its Long Island City building.
