About SECOND THOUGHT THEATRE

Second Thought Theatre is a Dallas-based, donor-facing 501(c)(3) theatre company founded in 2003 and resident in Bryant Hall on the Kalita Humphreys campus. The company programs contemporary plays, new works, and bold adaptations in an intimate black-box setting and emphasizes artistic risk-taking and playwright development. In recent seasons Second Thought has continued producing critically noted work (including a 2023 world premiere) while expanding development initiatives such as its STEP Emerging Playwrights and Associate Director programs. The company maintains an active season subscription model and donor-supported initiatives to underwrite new plays and local artist training.

Founded in 2003, Second Thought has mounted more than two decades of seasons and marked its 21st season in the 2024 season cycle as a sustained presence in the Dallas theatre ecosystem.

Produced a recent world premiere (2023)

Presented the world premiere of Janielle Kastner’s Anne‑Tig‑Uh‑Knee in 2023, a high-profile new work that drew local critical attention and audience engagement.

Playwright and artist development programs

Operates the STEP Emerging Playwrights track, Playwriting Showcases and an Associate Director program to develop early-career playwrights, directors, and creative teams; these programs ran publicly and in-development readings through 2023–2025.
