About Muscular Dystrophy Association

Founded in 1950 by Paul Cohen, who lived with Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy, the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) has been dedicated to combating neuromuscular diseases for over seven decades. Initially focused on muscular dystrophy, MDA has expanded its mission to include over 300 related neuromuscular conditions.

Today, MDA operates a nationwide network of Care Centers, supports groundbreaking research, and provides comprehensive resources for individuals and families affected by neuromuscular diseases. Through advocacy and community engagement, MDA strives to improve the quality of life for those it serves.
