AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY - New York Section, Inc.

The American Chemical Society — New York Section (ACS New York Section) is the local section of the national American Chemical Society serving the New York metropolitan area. It is a volunteer-run, membership-focused professional organization that organizes technical meetings, symposia, awards, teacher and student programs, and public outreach to advance chemical education and professional development. The Section administers long-running regional programs including the William H. Nichols Medal symposium and award, the Nichols Foundation Chemistry Teacher Award, undergraduate research symposia, participation in the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad, and community outreach like National Chemistry Week and Chemists Celebrate Earth Week. These programs connect academic, industrial, and K–12 communities and prioritize student support and science literacy. The Section is an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) local section (tax-exempt since the 1940s) with recent annual filings showing it operates at a modest budget scale while maintaining net assets to support programming; it held William H. Nichols Medal events in 2023 and 2024 and continued teacher- and student-focused activities in the most recent years.
