About MUSIC FROM JAPAN INC

Music From Japan Inc. is a New York–based 501(c)(3) arts organization (founded in 1975) that presents festivals, concerts, residencies and commissions focused on traditional and contemporary music from Japan. The organization was co‑founded and is led by artistic director Naoyuki Miura and has a long history of presenting both established and emerging Japanese composers and performers to U.S. and international audiences.

MFJ maintains an online Resource Center for Japanese Music (composer and works databases), commissions new works, and organizes multi‑day festival programming in New York and touring projects abroad. In recent seasons the organization marked its 50th anniversary season (2025) and continued presenting festival concerts into 2026, indicating ongoing, active programming.
