About SOHOPHOTO FOUNDATION INC

SohoPhoto Foundation, Inc. (Soho Photo Gallery) is an artist-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit gallery founded in 1971 that presents monthly exhibitions, juried competitions, community shows, workshops, and portfolio reviews to support photographers and promote fine art photography. The organization operates as a cooperative of working photographers (with no salaried employees), channels donor support into exhibitions, public programs, and an endowment, and maintains an active exhibition schedule and community partnerships. In recent years Soho Photo has continued in-person programming, launched community exhibition initiatives, and relocated to a larger Chelsea gallery space to broaden its public reach.

Notable achievements

Relocation to Chelsea (2025)

Completed an organizational relocation and opened a new, larger gallery space in Chelsea with an inaugural member exhibition (Move / Moving / Movement) in April 2025, increasing exhibition capacity and public visibility.

Sustained member-run programming and competitions

Maintained a continuous program of juried national competitions, member shows, and the long-running Krappy Kamera contest and internships, supporting emerging photographers and providing professional exhibition opportunities.
