Target Margin Theater was founded in 1991 to expand the possibilities of what can take place in a theater by creating radically re-imagined versions of classics and new works inspired by existing sources. The organization prioritizes adventurous, formally daring work and cultivates emerging artists through residencies, labs, and training programs. Equity, wide-ranging casting, and sustained engagement with its Sunset Park community are core commitments of its practice.

About TARGET MARGIN THEATER INC

Target Margin Theater is a Brooklyn-based, donor-facing 501(c)(3) theater company and producing house founded and led by David Herskovits that specializes in reimagined classics and adventurous new work. The company operates a mainstage season, a laboratory for emerging artists, residency and studio-space programs, and youth- and community-focused initiatives. In recent seasons Target Margin has expanded in-person activity and community programming from its Sunset Park home, reviving its Laboratory festival and Institute, increasing Young Artist and Community Café offerings, and mounting new major work (including the March 2026 anchor production “THIS IS REAL”). Target Margin maintains regular public programming, artist residencies, and a paid artistic staff while continuing to prioritize diverse casting and training opportunities for early-career artists.

Obie Award–winning company

Target Margin has been recognized with multiple Obie Awards across its history, establishing its reputation for influential off-off/broadway and experimental productions.

Established Sunset Park performance home

In 2017 the company opened and consolidated programming in its first long-term performance space in Sunset Park, enabling expanded community engagement, studio residency hours, and a steady season of productions.

Revival of Target Margin Laboratory & major 2026 production

Target Margin revived its Laboratory festival for new work and presented the anchor production “THIS IS REAL” in March 2026, demonstrating renewed output and investment in artist development following pandemic disruptions.
