The Guild builds the capacity of community arts education providers to deliver quality, sustainable, and equitable arts learning; secure greater financial support; and contribute to systemic change so all people have access to arts education. It pursues this mission through professional development, research and resources, peer learning, and advocacy.
About National Guild for Community Arts Education, Inc.
Founded in 1937, the National Guild for Community Arts Education is the national service organization for providers of community arts education. The Guild supports community schools of the arts, arts centers, youth orchestras and theaters, museum and university arts-education divisions, and individual teaching artists through training, research, advocacy, and peer networks.
The organization serves a membership network of more than 400 institutions across the United States and produces benchmarking research, leadership development programs (including the Community Arts Education Leadership and Intercultural Institute/CAELII), annual conferences, and member resources that center equity, accessibility, and sustainability. In recent years the Guild has emphasized liberatory leadership, wellness for arts leaders, and human-centered organizational practices.
Recent activity includes a major philanthropic award in 2025 to advance the Guild’s strategic plan and initiatives to expand wellness and leadership resources for the field, and the launch of a CAELII Organizational Liberation Cohort (timeline spanning late 2025 into 2026) to help organizations redesign HR and people practices with an equity lens.
Notable achievements
Mellon Foundation Grant
Awarded a two-year $500,000 grant (announced February 6, 2025) to advance the Guild’s strategic plan and expand wellness, leadership, and equity-centered resources for community arts educators.
National Membership Network
Sustains and serves a national membership of 400+ community arts education institutions, providing research, advocacy, professional development, and peer learning that strengthen program quality and access to arts learning.
CAELII Organizational Liberation Cohort
Developed and launched a cohort-based CAELII program focused on human-centered HR and liberatory workplace practices, including a multi-day in-person intensive and follow-up coaching to support policy and cultural change at participating organizations (program activity across 2025–2026).
