About MASTER DRAWINGS ASSOCIATION INC

Master Drawings Association, Inc. is a New York–incorporated nonprofit (founded 1962) that publishes the quarterly scholarly journal Master Drawings (first issued 1963). The journal covers drawings from the fourteenth century to the present and is edited to academic standards for an international readership of scholars, curators, and collectors. The Association advances drawings scholarship through its subscription journal, the Ricciardi Prize for young scholars, an annual symposium, and other public programs and partnerships with museums and institutions. In recent years the organization has expanded digital access for subscribers, continued its annual symposium program, and announced new editorial leadership while maintaining regular publication and donor-supported operations. As a registered 501(c)(3) public charity, the Association operates with a modest professional staff and relies on subscriptions, contributions, foundation support, and institutional partnerships to fund editorial production, prize awards, and public programs that sustain research in the field of drawings.

Notable achievements

Longstanding scholarly journal

Has continuously published the quarterly journal Master Drawings since 1963, establishing a leading international forum for the study of drawings across periods and geographies.

Ricciardi Prize for young scholars

Instituted an annual Ricciardi Prize (cash award and opportunities to present at the Association’s symposium) to support and publish outstanding research by early-career scholars working on drawings.
