AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT CENTER
The Mission of the African Development Center is to grow businesses, build wealth, and increase reinvestment in the African communities of Minnesota.
About AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT CENTER
African Development Center (ADC) is a Minnesota-based nonprofit founded to promote economic empowerment for African immigrants and refugees through culturally competent services. ADC delivers business development, financial literacy, homeownership counseling, and small-business lending to help clients build assets and reinvest in their communities. ADC operates a micro-lending program and training services that support new and existing entrepreneurs, and runs social-venture activities to increase organizational self-sufficiency. ADC also operates satellite offices across Minnesota and has expanded operations beyond Minnesota to grow its model. ADC has grown its loan portfolio and balance sheet in recent years (net loans receivable and loan activity increased materially in 2022–2023) and reported audited consolidated financial statements with an unmodified opinion; the organization continues to deploy capital and training to support hundreds of small business clients each year.
Notable achievements
Microloan portfolio scale
Built a substantial small-business loan portfolio (hundreds of active small business loans outstanding and multi‑million-dollar loan receivables) to finance African immigrant entrepreneurs and community businesses.
State expansion and satellite network
Expanded service footprint with satellite offices across Minnesota and post‑year expansion into Nevada to replicate its economic‑empowerment model.
Audited financial growth
Achieved audited, unmodified consolidated financial statements and year‑over‑year growth in net assets, reflecting increased grant, loan, rental and program revenue.
