About MINNEAPOLIS PARKS FOUNDATION

Minneapolis Parks Foundation (MPF) is an independent, donor-supported 501(c)(3) that serves as the primary philanthropic partner to the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, supporting projects, capital campaigns, and community-driven programming across the city's park system. The Foundation centers equity and cultural inclusion in its work, operating citywide while prioritizing investments in under-resourced neighborhoods such as North Minneapolis and supporting community-led improvements through its People for Parks Fund. MPF advances parks-focused fundraising, public engagement (Next Generation of Parks events, Walk & Talks), and long-term initiatives (RiverFirst, North Commons Park) to expand access to safe, welcoming park spaces and programming for Minneapolis residents.

Notable achievements

Transforming North Commons Park campaign

Led a multi-year capital campaign to support the large-scale renovation of North Commons Park, securing major philanthropic commitments (including the organization’s largest single gift) and helping propel the project to construction and a public groundbreaking in 2025.

People for Parks Fund grantmaking

Administers the People for Parks Fund (legacy program merged into MPF in 2020) that awards annual, grassroots grants to neighborhood-led projects and programs across Minneapolis, enabling dozens of small capital and programmatic improvements in parks each year.

Citywide engagement and signature events

Produces recurring public programs—Next Generation of Parks lecture series, Walk & Talk guided tours, Posters for Parks and Sunrise on the Mississippi—engaging hundreds of residents, design leaders, and donors to build public support for park investments and stewardship.
