About SCALPEL AT THE CROSS INC

Scalpel At The Cross, Inc. is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) medical mission ministry that has provided surgical and related medical services to Pucallpa and the surrounding Amazon region of Peru since 2004. The organization runs short-term surgical campaigns (typically 10-day trips 3–4 times per year) and operates programs that combine direct clinical care with training, outcomes tracking, and spiritual ministry.

Beyond direct surgeries, Scalpel At The Cross emphasizes local capacity building and sustainability through clinical education, observerships for Peruvian clinicians, orthopaedic conferences and knowledge exchange. In recent years the charity has expanded its strategic vision (the "Miracle Campus") to scale orthopaedic, rehabilitation, and socioeconomic support services alongside its clinical work.

Notable achievements

Long-term clinical impact

Over nearly two decades the organization reports delivering more than $11 million worth of healthcare to the patient population it serves in the Peruvian Amazon, restoring function and livelihoods for many who otherwise would not receive surgical care.

Scalpel At The Cross introduced the SIGN intramedullary nailing program locally, enabling definitive fracture fixation capacity at partner hospitals and supporting local surgeons with training and program adoption.

Local workforce development & observerships

The charity has sponsored observership rotations for Peruvian clinicians, hosted regional orthopaedic trauma conferences and grand rounds, and supported career development in orthopaedics, physical therapy, and orthotics/prosthetics to strengthen sustainable local care.
