About The Potter's House Community Development Empowering Center, Inc.

The Potter’s House Community Development Empowering Center (TPHCDEC) is a Jacksonville-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2004 that runs community development, education and service programs on the city’s Westside. It operates Kingdom Plaza (the redevelopment of the former Normandy Mall) as a mixed-use community hub and runs community-facing enterprises such as The Soul Food Bistro. TPHCDEC delivers locally focused programs including GED preparation, mentoring and small-business/entrepreneur supports intended to increase economic opportunity and stabilize low- and moderate-income households. In recent years the organization has also been a recipient and implementer of city-funded community safety and violence-prevention contracts and other public grants.

Notable achievements

Kingdom Plaza redevelopment

Acquired and redeveloped the former Normandy Mall into Kingdom Plaza, a mixed-use community hub that houses social programs, small-business spaces and the organization’s food-service enterprise to support local economic activity.

City-funded program delivery (Cure Violence / community services)

Served as a city contractor and grant recipient in recent municipal cycles to deliver violence-prevention and community services (Cure Violence-related programming and other locally funded initiatives) to Westside neighborhoods.

Education and workforce programs

Operates ongoing education and workforce offerings—including GED preparation, mentoring and space for small-business incubation—aimed at helping disadvantaged individuals and families toward employment and self-sufficiency.
