DISCOVERY GREEN CONSERVANCY

Discovery Green Conservancy is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that programs, operates and maintains Discovery Green, a 12-acre public urban park in downtown Houston created through a public–private partnership with the City of Houston. The Conservancy presents hundreds of free and low-cost cultural, fitness, family and civic programs annually and operates the park as an accessible community gathering place. Since the park opened on April 13, 2008, the Conservancy’s programming and stewardship have attracted millions of visitors and supported downtown revitalization. In recent years the Conservancy has continued to expand public art, seasonal signature experiences (for example the outdoor ice rink and concert series), year-round free fitness and family programs, and phased capital improvements to park amenities. The organization emphasizes sustainability and equitable access: the park is LEED Gold certified, integrates on-site solar and water-recycling features, and the Conservancy works with many community partners to ensure programming serves families, children and the broader public across Houston.
