About A WORLD AWARE, INC. D.B.A. AWA
A World Aware (AWA) is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit (U.S.) founded in 2005 that partners with local organizations in South Africa to support crèche-level children, teachers, families, and community leaders.
AWA focuses on sustainable, locally led projects — especially teacher training, crèche upliftment, nutrition and gardening programs — and emphasizes long-term, holistic solutions rather than one-time handouts.
In recent years AWA has continued work on teacher education, small-scale agricultural (tower garden) projects, pandemic-relief support to help children return safely to learning, and volunteer-led facility improvements.
Notable achievements
Established long-term South Africa partnership
AWA is registered and operating both as a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit and as a recognized NPO/PBO in South Africa, enabling sustained bilateral projects since 2005 and continuing programming into the last several years.
Sustainable nutrition projects deployed
Implemented tower-garden and related gardening projects that teach families and crèches to grow nutritious vegetables with minimal water, improving local food security.
Crèche infrastructure and teacher support
Delivered phased crèche improvements (play equipment, classroom repairs, learning materials) and ongoing teacher training that have reached many rural preschools and contributed to safer, more educational early-learning environments.
