About CHOSA INC

CHOSA Inc. (Children of South Africa) is a U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Los Angeles that funds and supports grassroots community-based organisations serving orphans and other vulnerable children in South Africa, primarily in and around Cape Town. The organization provides unrestricted monthly grants, once-off grants, capacity-building services, after-school programming, and quarterly networking events that connect local CBOs, trainers, and funders so community leaders can sustain and scale child-focused services. CHOSA operates through a small US-based fundraising and administrative team together with an on-the-ground Cape Town staff who monitor grants, deliver capacity-building training, and maintain long-term partnerships with children’s homes, preschools and youth programs.

Notable achievements

Established the Philani Family Fund

Helped create and seed the Philani Family Fund (PFF) to provide emergency housing, scholarships and flexible household support to destitute families in Cape Town, enabling long-term investments in children’s wellbeing.

Sustained multi-year partner support

Maintains ongoing monthly grants and capacity-building support for a portfolio of community partners (including preschools, children’s homes and youth programs) so local projects can cover core operating needs and respond to urgent needs.

Local program strengthening and networking

Runs capacity-building visits, topical training (early childhood development, financial management, nutrition, child protection) and regular networking events that increase partner organizations’ governance, program quality and local fundraising capacity.
