About THE SAMBURU PROJECT INC
The Samburu Project, Inc. is a Los Angeles–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on delivering sustainable access to clean water for Samburu communities in northern Kenya. Founded in the mid-2000s (organization established on the ground in 2005; IRS recognition/ruling year 2006), the organization combines well drilling with community-led programs that expand health, education, women’s empowerment and local food production. The organization drills and maintains groundwater wells in collaboration with local partners and community committees, and layers hygiene/sanitation training, girls’ health and education support, and small-scale agriculture programs onto its water projects. As of the most recent public reporting, The Samburu Project reports 175 wells drilled serving over 100,000 people, with roughly 90% of drilled wells continuing to serve their communities over time.
