About Hawaii FIRST Robotics

Hawaii FIRST Robotics (HFR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that coordinates and administers the full suite of FIRST programs in Hawaiʻi, including FIRST LEGO League Explore, FIRST LEGO League Challenge, FIRST Tech Challenge, and the FIRST Robotics Competition. HFR organizes state championships, regional events, volunteer and judge training, and student-facing activities for learners aged roughly 6–18 across the Hawaiian Islands. HFR operates as the official FIRST partner in Hawaiʻi and maintains an active calendar of competitions and outreach; in recent seasons HFR-managed championships have advanced multiple Hawaii teams to FIRST World Championship events and to national/international FTC and VEX-level competitions. The organization also supports alumni engagement and student recognition programs (for example, an annual HFR Signing Day to celebrate graduating seniors pursuing STEAM pathways).

Notable achievements

State Championship — Teams advancing to FIRST World Championship

HFR coordinated the Hawaii Championship (published December 15, 2025) that advanced multiple Hawaii teams (including Cyber Saints #13088 and Pokébolts #6962) to the 2026 FIRST World Championship and designated award winners across FTC divisions.

Ongoing statewide program administration

HFR serves as the official FIRST partner in Hawaiʻi and runs year-round programming across age levels (FLL Explore, FLL Challenge, FTC, FRC), furnishing tournament operations, judge/volunteer training, and event logistics that enable school- and community-based teams to compete locally and advance to national/international events.

Alumni & student recognition initiative

HFR established an alumni-led Signing Day ceremony (held as an annual event) to recognize graduating seniors from Hawaii FIRST teams who commit to college, career, or military STEAM pathways, broadening the organization’s student-support and outreach efforts.
