ASIAN AMERICAN WOMEN ARTISTS ASSOCIATION INC

The Asian American Women Artists Association (AAWAA) is a San Francisco–based nonprofit that supports and documents the work of Asian American and AAPI women-identified artists across visual, literary, and performing arts. It produces exhibitions, oral-history projects, public programs, publications and member salons to increase recognition and preserve the histories of Asian American women artists. Founded as a grassroots artist organization in 1989 and established as a 501(c)(3) in 2007, AAWAA operates a national membership network while partnering with local cultural institutions to present multidisciplinary exhibitions and community projects. In recent years AAWAA has remained active: it mounted the Jade Wave Rising exhibition (April 27–May 21, 2023), continued its oral-history series Pass It On (Episode 1 first presented on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2022), published public statements on AAPI rights and safety (June 11, 2025), and conducted organizational staffing and governance transitions including Board leadership announcements (August 13, 2024) and a public Director recruitment (posted January 9, 2026).
