About AMATEUR RADIO EMERGENCY SERVICE OF DOUGLAS AND ELBERT COUNTIES, INC.
Amateur Radio Emergency Service of Douglas and Elbert Counties, Inc. (commonly called ARESDEC or ARES R1D5) is a volunteer organization of licensed amateur radio operators that provides emergency and event communications support to local public-safety agencies and community partners.
The organization operates as a nonprofit (identified on its site as a 501(c)(3) NPO), maintains radio infrastructure (repeaters, APRS digipeaters and gateways), runs weekly practice nets and monthly meetings, and deploys mobile communications resources to assist during incidents, large public events, and preparedness activities.
In the last 2–3 years ARESDEC has publicly demonstrated its Mobile Communication Center at community events, supported county emergency-management activities and hospitals, and continued routine training, nets and infrastructure maintenance to keep communications capabilities ready for incidents.
Notable achievements
Established mobile communications center (MCC)
Developed and deployed a custom Mobile Communication Center (trailer) used for public demonstrations and incident response, increasing on-scene capability for voice and digital messaging.
Sustained radio infrastructure
Owns and operates multiple APRS digipeaters, analog and DMR repeaters and a Winlink RMS gateway to provide redundant local communications during incidents.
Active partnerships with county agencies and hospitals
Maintains working relationships with Douglas and Elbert County emergency management, sheriff’s offices and area hospitals to integrate amateur radio into emergency operations and shelter support.
