About PUULU LAPAAU

Puʻulu Lapaʻau (The Hawaiʻi Program for Healthcare Professionals) is an independent, nonprofit Physician Health Program (PHP) based in Honolulu that provides confidential assessment, case management, treatment coordination, monitoring and practice re-entry services to physicians and other healthcare professionals. The organization offers both supportive (non-disciplinary) case management for work-life stress and less intensive concerns, and structured monitoring programs that follow national PHP guidelines to address substance use, mental health, physical illness and behavior concerns while protecting patient safety. Puʻulu Lapaʻau was formed in 2006 (transitioning responsibilities from the Hawaiʻi Medical Association’s Committee on Physician’s Health), maintains a volunteer board of clinicians and legal counsel, and actively publishes annual reports and program materials describing services and outcomes.
