POW leads the outdoor movement for climate action, mobilizing athletes, brands, scientists and outdoor enthusiasts to advance policy solutions that protect air, water, public lands and a livable climate.
About Protect Our Winters
Protect Our Winters (POW) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 20-8474909) founded in 2007 to turn outdoor passion into climate advocacy by building the political will needed to deploy clean-energy and public-lands protections.
POW works through education, community organizing, alliance-building (athletes, brands, scientists, creatives) and direct policy advocacy; recent priorities (2023–2025) include large-scale trainings for advocates, federal clean-energy and grid legislation, defending public lands, and voter engagement campaigns targeted to the outdoor community.
Notable achievements
Electoral engagement — "Stoke the Vote"
Ran a nationwide voter-engagement effort that included dozens of election-season events in 2024 to mobilize outdoor voters and increase civic participation within the Outdoor State.
Federal policy impact
Played a visible role in advancing and defending federal clean-energy policy goals, including advocacy around the Inflation Reduction Act’s implementation and sponsoring/introduction of the Energizing Our Communities Act to accelerate grid and community clean-energy deployment.
Public lands defense
Organized membership and public-comment campaigns to oppose fossil-fuel and mineral development on public lands, contributing to multi-state efforts to protect sensitive landscapes (including recent campaigns in Colorado, Nevada, and Alaska).
