About AYITI DEMEN

Ayiti Demen is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN: 20-8967664) founded to support and amplify locally led Haitian civil society through grantmaking, fiscal sponsorship, and donor coordination. The organization focuses its grantmaking on three program areas—education, art & culture, and sustainable development—and commonly routes support through longstanding Haitian partners such as FOKAL (Fondation Connaissance et Liberté).

Since 2021 Ayiti Demen has been an active, donor-facing grantmaker and relief coordinator: it led a joint fundraising and relief effort following the August 2021 southern Haiti earthquake, shifted into rebuilding and recovery work, and has convened funders (Haiti Funders Conferences) to improve the effectiveness and coordination of philanthropy for Haiti. The organization maintains an active website with program reports, situation reports, and fundraising/donate pages, and continues to operate as an active grantmaker and fiscal sponsor.

Notable achievements

Major earthquake relief fundraising

Led a joint fundraising effort with FOKAL that raised over $1 million for post-2021 earthquake relief and recovery and strategically distributed funds to local grassroots organizations active in southern Haiti.

Wide local distribution of relief funds

Distributed relief and recovery grants to dozens of Haitian grassroots organizations (roughly 35 organizations) reaching an estimated 23,500+ families with food, water, medical supplies, cash assistance and reconstruction support during the emergency and transition to rebuilding.

Philanthropic convenings for Haiti

Co-organized the Haiti Funders Conference (most recently convened in 2023 and with subsequent events planned) to bring donors, foundations, diaspora organizations, and practitioners together to coordinate strategic philanthropic investments in Haiti.
