About KUNQU SOCIETY INC
Kunqu Society, Inc. is a New York–based nonprofit founded in 1988 (incorporated 1989) that studies, preserves, and promotes Kunqu, one of the oldest extant genres of Chinese theatre. The organization presents public performances, lecture-demonstrations, and research publications while operating regular community-accessible Kunqu workshops. The Society operates ongoing training workshops taught by professional kunqu artists (singing, movement, acting, flute, and stage make-up), mounts free or low-cost public performances and concerts, and partners with local cultural institutions. In recent years the Society has continued public programming and online events (including a March memorial/lecture session) and reports long-standing institutional support from New York arts funders.
