About Rural Education and Development, Inc. (dba READ Global)
Rural Education and Development, Inc., doing business as READ Global, is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit headquartered in San Francisco that partners with rural communities in Nepal, India, and Bhutan to establish community library and resource centers (READ Centers). These Centers combine libraries, computer rooms, training halls and AV spaces to deliver literacy, technology, women’s empowerment, and livelihood programming. READ Global operates a community-led, sustainability-focused model: communities co-invest in and manage Centers while READ Global provides technical and initial financial support, program design, training, and monitoring. In recent years the organization has continued to expand its network, published audited financial statements and annual reporting for 2023, and reported program-level impact such as women's empowerment and technology training outcomes. READ Global is donor-facing and maintains an active fundraising presence (including a Network for Good donation page), partnerships with international funders and implementing partners, and multi-year audited financials and Form 990 filings available to the public.
