SAN FRANCISCO ARTS EDUCATION PROJECT

The San Francisco Arts Education Project (SFArtsED) is a long-established San Francisco nonprofit (founded in 1968) that pairs practicing visual and performing artists with K–8 students through in-school artist residencies, after-school programs, summer camps, gallery exhibitions, and a youth musical-theater company. The organization traces its origins to artist Ruth Asawa’s Alvarado School Art Workshop and remains focused on ensuring equitable access to hands-on arts learning across San Francisco public schools. SFArtsED operates a citywide roster of artist-mentors and program offerings that reach thousands of children each year; historically the organization reports having served more than 300,000 students since its founding and reaches roughly 7,000–7,500 students annually through residencies, camps, after-school classes, and performances. In recent years SFArtsED has maintained partnerships and funded residencies with San Francisco Unified School District and has continued public programming and fundraising activity, including grants and contracted services that support its artist-in-residence and youth performance programs.
