About TEXAS CONSERVATION ALLIANCE

Texas Conservation Alliance (TCA), founded in 1971 and based in Dallas, is a statewide, donor-facing 501(c)(3) conservation organization that combines grassroots outreach, policy advocacy, education, and habitat restoration to protect wildlife and wild habitat across Texas.

TCA runs community programs such as Lights Out for Wildlife, a Native Plant Propagation Center and plant sales, and the Texas Conservation Action Team (TXCAT) to mobilize volunteers for habitat restoration and citizen science. In recent years TCA has continued active advocacy against proposed reservoirs and other large infrastructure projects that threaten habitat, and has partnered with state agencies and funders to deliver conservation education and youth engagement programs.

The organization is the State Affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation and maintains an active public-facing website, volunteer calendar, and donor/donation channels; it routinely receives competitive grants and cooperative awards to support outreach and on-the-ground work (including a TPWD CO‑OP grant awarded in 2024).

TPWD CO‑OP Grant (2024)

Awarded a Texas Parks & Wildlife Department Community Outdoor Outreach Program (CO‑OP) grant (March 2024) to expand youth and underrepresented-audience engagement in citizen science and hands-on conservation projects across Texas.

Native Plant Propagation & Habitat Work

Operates a Native Plant Propagation Center and runs plant sales and restoration events that support local habitat restoration and community engagement, including Lights Out bird-collision surveys and milkweed plantings for monarchs.

Decades of Statewide Advocacy

Established in 1971, TCA has a long record of statewide conservation advocacy—organizing coalitions, participating in state water and land planning, and opposing proposed reservoir projects that would damage wildlife habitat.
