About YOUNG OF HEART WORKSHOP (dba Puʻuhonua Society)
Young of Heart Workshop is the legal/historical name for the organization now operating as Puʻuhonua Society, a Native Hawaiian women-led nonprofit based in Honolulu that supports artists, makers, and cultural practitioners through studios, workshops, exhibitions, and community programs. Founded in 1972 as the Young of Heart Workshop & Gallery, the organization rebranded as Puʻuhonua Society in the 2000s while continuing long-running programs that transmit Hawaiian material practices (including lauhala weaving) and that steward cultural archives and public programs. In the last 2–3 years Puʻuhonua Society has sustained and expanded programs such as Kīpuka (a makerspace and skills network), KEANAHALA (a community weaving program), Hoʻomau Nā Maka o ka ʻĀina (archive preservation and access), and regional regranting/partnership activities, and has received competitive national arts support.
