PATH Intl., founded in 1969 (formerly NARHA), is the leading U.S.-based association that develops standards, certifies professionals and accredits centers delivering equine-assisted activities and therapies (EAS) to improve health, wellness and learning outcomes.
Through center accreditation, professional certification, education and advocacy, PATH Intl. supports hundreds of member centers and thousands of credentialed professionals worldwide; in fiscal year 2023–2024 PATH Intl. reported reaching over 71,200 participants and documented significant program growth and new initiatives to expand access and center sustainability.
Notable achievements
NCCA accreditation for CTRI® (2023)
PATH Intl.’s Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI®) credential received accreditation from the National Commission for Certifying Agencies in mid-2023, providing independent recognition of the credential’s rigor and supporting broader professional acceptance and funding opportunities.
Center sustainability grants & Innovation Circles
In 2024–2025 PATH Intl. secured and distributed multi-year grants and launched Innovation Circles to support center sustainability, professional development, certification growth and participant financial aid to expand access to services.
Scale and impact in FY2023–24
PATH Intl. reported serving over 71,200 participants, documented waiting lists (over 16,000 people), supported hundreds of member centers (including Premier Accredited Centers) and maintained a large, growing community of certified professionals (4,400+ PATH Intl. certified professionals) in its 2023–2024 annual report.
