About Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii

Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii (EFH) is a Honolulu-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has served people affected by epilepsy statewide since the early 1970s. The organization provides education, seizure-first-aid training, support groups, community outreach, and advocacy while maintaining liaisons on the Big Island and Maui to extend services across all islands. EFH operates with a small professional staff supported by a volunteer board and community partners; it works closely with the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at The Queen’s Medical Center and participates in national Epilepsy Foundation programs and campaigns. In the last 2–3 years EFH has run community events (including its Freedom Run fundraising activities), supported a Teens Speak Up! representative (2025), and pursued state grant funding to expand outreach and first-aid training across Hawaii.

Notable achievements

50+ years of service

Established in the early 1970s and operating as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) since 1973, EFH has provided continuous, locally tailored epilepsy education and support across Hawaii for more than five decades.

State grant-supported outreach expansion

In 2025 EFH advanced a State Grant-In-Aid proposal and reported $40,000 awarded in aid to expand capacity by hiring an outreach coordinator to increase seizure education, first-aid training, and in-person outreach across the islands.

Large-scale seizure education reach

EFH has delivered extensive seizure recognition and first-aid training statewide and reports training efforts that have reached nearly 3,000 individuals through school, community, and professional trainings.
