About SEWARD REDESIGN INC (DBA Redesign, Inc.)
Seward Redesign Inc., doing business as Redesign, Inc., is a place-based community development corporation based in Minneapolis that focuses on neighborhood economic development, affordable housing, commercial real estate development, property management, and small business support. The organization works in the Greater Longfellow / Seward service area to advance community-led redevelopment, support local entrepreneurs with technical assistance and commercial space, and preserve affordable housing while centering racial and economic equity in its work. Since the 2020 civic unrest the organization has been a visible leader in corridor recovery and redevelopment efforts—leading property acquisitions, large-scale rehabilitation projects, and partnerships with small business owners and public funders to reactivate commercial spaces and community amenities.
Notable achievements
Coliseum Building redevelopment
Led acquisition and rehabilitation of the historic Coliseum Building on East Lake Street (purchased using community lending tools) and advanced a multi-million-dollar restoration project that brings turnkey retail, office, and shared work/ event space back to the corridor. The project assembled public and private financing including a City CPDF loan and state/county grants to support a roughly $30 million redevelopment that prioritizes BIPOC entrepreneurs and locally owned small businesses.
Seward Commons / Wadaag Commons completion
Delivered the final phase of the Seward Commons project (Wadaag Commons) and opened new community-facing space as part of an ongoing effort to provide inclusive, mixed-use places that combine affordable housing, cultural programming, and commercial activity in south Minneapolis.
Sustained small business and corridor recovery support
Provided ongoing small-business technical assistance, commercial space leasing and property management across Greater Longfellow, and helped neighborhood entrepreneurs secure recovery and growth capital. The organization also partnered with coalitions such as Longfellow Rising and Lake Street Alignment to coordinate community-driven rebuilding and economic opportunity initiatives.
