About LEARNING DISABILITIES ASSOCIATION INC

Learning Disabilities Association, Inc. (doing business as LDA Minnesota) is a Minnesota-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit headquartered in Golden Valley that provides diagnostic assessments, tutoring, executive function coaching, in-school interventions, professional development, and public education focused on learning disabilities and attention challenges. Over its decades-long history LDA Minnesota has expanded both direct services for children, families, and adults and educator-focused programs. In the last 2–3 years the organization scaled its Learning Connections in-school intervention program, launched and grew an approved special education Teacher Preparation & Licensure program (Academic Behavioral Specialist pathway), secured multi-year state grant funding to expand licensure and mentoring work, and relocated to a smaller, right-sized office after selling longtime property.

Notable achievements

Learning Connections outcomes (FY2024)

During fiscal year 2024 (Sept 1, 2023–Aug 31, 2024) LDA’s Learning Connections served 287 K–12 students (91% low-income; 94% students of color); 93% of students showed positive academic growth with 60% exceeding expected growth in reading and 80% exceeding expected growth in math.

Teacher prep program growth

LDA’s Teacher Preparation & Licensure program graduated its fourth cohort in May 2024, recommended three candidates for licensure, enrolled 15 candidates in FY2024 with 85% retention and an average GPA of 3.87, and reported 42% of candidates identifying as BIPOC.

Expanded funding and organizational transition

In 2023–2025 LDA secured multi-year state grant funding (including a three-year MN Department of Education grant and a Special Educator Pipeline grant partnership) to expand licensure and mentoring work, and completed the sale of longtime property and moved to a smaller Golden Valley office to align resources with service delivery.
