About HUI NALU OHAWAII

HUI NALU OHAWAII (operating as Hui Nalu Canoe Club) is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit based at Maunalua Bay in Hawaiʻi Kai, Oʻahu. The organization works to revive, develop, and perpetuate Hawaiian culture and traditions through instruction, training, and organized paddling programs spanning youth, distance, and regatta seasons. Founded in the early 20th century and historically connected with Hawaiian water-sport leaders, the club fields paddlers across age groups, participates in Oʻahu and statewide canoe racing associations (OHCRA and HCRA), and runs seasonal programs (regatta season, distance season, and Off-Season Paddling) to engage the community and preserve traditional canoes and practices. In recent years Hui Nalu has maintained active community programming and financial sustainability, continuing membership registration and practice schedules into 2026 while holding assets that support program delivery and canoe preservation.
