UNITED IRISH CULTURAL CENTER INC
The mission of the United Irish Cultural Center of San Francisco is to celebrate and promote the rich culture and heritage of the collective local, regional and national culture of Ireland for future generations to enjoy and conserve. The Center fosters cultural awareness through education, the arts, social events and by chronicling the historical contributions of Irish people in the San Francisco Bay Area.
About UNITED IRISH CULTURAL CENTER INC
The United Irish Cultural Center (UICC) is a long-established, donor-facing 501(c)(3) cultural nonprofit based at 2700 45th Avenue in San Francisco. The organization’s EIN (26-0610341) is publicly recorded in nonprofit databases and in the Center’s own materials, and the Center operates active cultural, educational, library and community programs.
UICC operates the Patrick J. Dowling Library, community cultural programming (music, dance, language, genealogy and youth programs), and regular public events including anniversary and St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. In the last 2–3 years the Center has hosted the Irish Echo’s Big Irish Campfire conference (2023), staged expanded public festivals and block-party events around St. Patrick’s Day, and advanced a multi‑phase capital/building initiative called the Irish Center 2025 Project to modernize and expand its facility.
The organization combines volunteer-led programming with paid staff and board leadership, runs regular membership and fundraising activities (including an annual gala), and has publicly documented plans to enlarge and modernize its cultural spaces and library to better serve the Bay Area Irish and broader community.
Notable achievements
Patrick J. Dowling Library (est. 1975)
Founded at the Center’s opening in 1975, the Patrick J. Dowling Library is the first and longest-running all‑Irish library in the United States. The library maintains several thousand physical volumes, extensive archival materials and runs regular public programs (literary events, genealogy resources and workshops).
50th Anniversary & Golden Gala (2025)
The UICC marked five decades of operation with a series of 50th‑anniversary events and fundraising activities, including anniversary services and a Golden Gala that renewed public attention and fundraising momentum for the Center’s programming and capital plans.
Irish Center 2025 Project — Capital Campaign
UICC launched an ambitious capital and redevelopment initiative to modernize and expand the facility (the Irish Center 2025 Project), moving from its historic footprint toward a larger, multi‑use cultural center with upgraded library, exhibition and community spaces. The campaign progressed through planning, architectural design and community outreach phases in recent years.
