Japanese Academy of the Rockies (JAR) is a Colorado nonprofit (501(c)(3)) founded in 2006 that offers Saturday-morning classes teaching Japanese language and culture to students ages two through adult. JAR emphasizes listening and speaking for heritage learners while also providing pathways for non-native learners to develop vocabulary, literacy, and test preparation skills.
JAR operates a two-track program (Japanese as Heritage Language — JHL — and Japanese Language Learners — JLL), organizes age- and proficiency-based classes (from parent-and-child toddler classes up through AP and JLPT preparation), and maintains volunteer- and tuition-supported operations with community donation programs.
