About TEACH WITH AFRICA

Teach With Africa is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that advances educational equity by facilitating reciprocal teacher exchange programs and high-quality professional development between the United States and African partner schools. The organization partners closely with South African institutions (including the LEAP Science & Maths Schools and the Global Teachers Institute) to mentor teachers, build local leadership capacity, and support student-centered instructional practices. Since formal establishment in 2008, Teach With Africa has scaled its footprint—engaging thousands of teachers and reaching well over 150,000 learners—and in the past 2–3 years has resumed and expanded in-person exchanges, launched early childhood development mentorship projects in southern Africa, and continued an active Bay Area host-school program. The organization also runs annual fundraising celebrations and alumni engagement to sustain exchange programming and classroom support.

Notable achievements

Scale of reach

Over its history Teach With Africa has facilitated hundreds of educator exchanges and professional-development partnerships, engaging more than 4,000 teachers and reaching in excess of 150,000–175,000 students across partner schools.

2025 Annual Celebration fundraising

At its 17th Annual Celebration (March 2025) Teach With Africa raised approximately $220,000 to support teacher exchange programs and targeted needs (including a Fund‑A‑Need that generated over $90,000 for student feeding, classroom technology, and teacher transportation).

Demonstrated partner outcomes

Through its partnership with LEAP and the Global Teachers Institute, partner school cohorts reported very strong learner outcomes (multiple LEAP schools posting high final national exam results) and expanded teacher mentoring programs that scale instructional improvements across regions.
