About Kapolei Community Development Corporation

Kapolei Community Development Corporation (KCDC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in 2008 by Kapolei homestead leaders to develop community infrastructure and culturally grounded programs for the Kapolei homestead region. KCDC operates the Kapolei Heritage Center (Phase 1 opened July 2016) and runs community-focused activities such as a certified community kitchen, classrooms, the Homestead Night Market, and partnerships with beneficiary-serving programs (early childhood, kupuna services, cultural arts). In recent years KCDC has professionalized operations—hiring an Executive Director and community health staff—while pursuing phased expansion of the Heritage Center and adjacent Hoʻomaka Marketplace to increase local program capacity and earned revenue. The organization pursues grants and state support to complete master planning and construction for additional phases of the center while maintaining programming that supports Native Hawaiian homestead families and community economic opportunities.

Notable achievements

Kapolei Heritage Center Phase I Opened

Opened the first phase of the Kapolei Heritage Center in July 2016, establishing a certified community kitchen and two classrooms that serve as a cultural and program hub for Kapolei homestead beneficiaries.

Hoʻomaka Marketplace Development

Partnered on and opened the Hoʻomaka Marketplace (completed December 2023) to create a mixed-use marketplace intended to generate sustainable earned revenue (projected to support center operations) and provide vendor and small-business opportunities for the region.

Secured Federal Grants & Organizational Capacity Building

In the last several years KCDC secured federal grant awards to support culture- and place-based initiatives (including Pili Aina and participation in Ike Hula), and transitioned from an all-volunteer board to paid staff positions (Executive Director, Community Health Worker) to expand program delivery and operations.
