About LOS ANGELES EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FOUNDATION
Los Angeles Emergency Preparedness Foundation (LAEPF) is a donor-facing 501(c)(3) nonprofit that advances disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and community resilience in Los Angeles County and the broader Southern California region. The organization runs community-focused programs (notably the Community Brigade pilot and Home Ignition Zone assessments), produces public resources and research, and coordinates with government, academic, and nonprofit partners to strengthen local capacities before and after disasters. In the past 2–3 years LAEPF moved from planning to operational activity: it launched a Community Brigade pilot in partnership with the Los Angeles County Fire Department (officialized in 2023) and supported volunteer response efforts during wildfire incidents in late 2024 and early 2025. LAEPF maintains an active resource library, multimedia outreach (including podcasts and videos), and publishes reports and tools aimed at homeowners, community leaders, and emergency managers.
Notable achievements
Community Brigade Pilot Program Launch
Led the multi-year effort to establish a Community Brigade pilot (approved October 2023) in partnership with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, initially deploying trained volunteer brigades in seven pilot communities in the Santa Monica Mountains.
Operational Wildfire Response (2024–2025)
Community Brigade volunteers trained and mobilized in response to the Franklin Fire (Dec 2024) and the Palisades fire (Jan 2025), performing community patrols, ember-spotting, door-to-door evacuation outreach, initial damage assessments, and supporting communications and logistics.
Home Ignition Zone Assessments & Public Resource Library
Developed and published practical homeowner-focused Home Ignition Zone assessment tools and a public resource library of reports, studies, podcasts and videos to improve wildfire resilience at the household and neighborhood level.
