PET PROJECT RESCUE
To be the solution to companion animal overpopulation & homelessness from MN to Mexico by offering free spay/neuter clinics for owned and homeless dogs and cats.
About PET PROJECT RESCUE
Pet Project Rescue (PPR) is a Minnesota-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that focuses on preventing companion animal homelessness through free spay/neuter clinics and targeted veterinary care from Minnesota to communities in Mexico. The organization operates Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs for community cats, runs regular spay/neuter clinics in the Riviera Maya region, and provides a Hero Fund to cover urgent veterinary needs for owned and street animals. Founded after rescue work in Mexico in 2008 and active in Minneapolis-area animal welfare since 2009, PPR shifted its primary emphasis to population-control programs (spay/neuter and TNR) in 2018 to address the root causes of shelter intake. The group works with local and international partners and relies on donors and volunteers to deliver low- and no-cost veterinary services to low-income pet owners and community caregivers. In recent years PPR has scaled its clinic operations substantially, expanded its Minnesota TNR programming statewide, and reported multi-thousand-animal impact figures for 2024 and ongoing clinic activity into 2025, demonstrating a programmatic focus on high-volume, cost-effective spay/neuter interventions to prevent future litters and reduce shelter intake.
Notable achievements
2024 Spay/Neuter Scale-Up
In 2024 PPR reported spaying/neutering 2,661 animals (a major year-over-year increase), including large-volume clinic activity in Mexico and TNR work in Minnesota; the organization reports this prevented an estimated 19,185 future puppies and kittens.
Mass Mexico Clinic (November 2024)
During a three-day spay/neuter event in November 2024 PPR helped 1,219 animals in a single month (566 dogs and 653 cats), reflecting capacity for concentrated, high-impact clinic operations.
Statewide TNR Expansion
PPR expanded its Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program across Minnesota in 2024, setting multi-hundred-cat TNR goals (the organization set a 2024 goal to TNR 275 community cats) to reduce community-cat shelter intake and suffering.
