Mālama Pūpūkea-Waimea

Mālama Pūpūkea-Waimea is a community-based 501(c)(3) steward of the Pūpūkea–Waimea ahupuaʿa on Oʻahu’s North Shore, focused on protecting coastal and marine resources through education, monitoring, and restoration. The organization was formed from local community stewardship efforts in 2005 and holds federal tax-exempt status (EIN 27-0855937).

The charity runs volunteer restoration days, youth education and outreach, biological and human-use monitoring (including a Makai Watch program), and works to reduce poaching and other stresses on the Pūpūkea Marine Life Conservation District. It continues to operate actively with public volunteer events and published a multi-decade impact report marking twenty years of stewardship work.

Mālama Pūpūkea-Waimea operates through partnerships with state agencies and national partners to advance local marine management, and reported operating revenues and assets in the low hundreds of thousands of dollars for the fiscal year ending December 2024, reflecting a small but sustained program budget and active donor support.
