About FOUNDATION FOR ADVOCACY INCLUSION AND RESOURCES

Foundation for Advocacy Inclusion and Resources (FAIR) is a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports recruitment, training, and placement of diverse early-career attorneys into plaintiff-side employment law practice. FAIR was founded by members of the California Employment Lawyers Association (CELA) and focuses on increasing representation in the employment bar while educating the public about workplace rights. In recent years FAIR has actively run its signature fellowship and clerkship programs in partnership with Legal Aid at Work and CELA-affiliated law firms, held fundraising campaigns (including the Mark Rudy Mediators’ Match), and continued annual fellowship recruitment and placement work. Financial profiles from public filings show the organization directs a high proportion of its expenses to program services, reflecting its focus on fellowships and student support.

Notable achievements

FAIR Fellowship (18‑month placement)

Operates an 18-month fellowship that funds a new attorney for 12 months at Legal Aid at Work followed by a 6-month placement at a CELA‑affiliated plaintiff law firm, providing salary support, bar stipends, mentorship, and practical litigation experience.

Employee Justice Summer Clerkship

Provides summer clerkship grants for diverse law students to work with CELA members, giving practical training and exposure to plaintiff employment litigation that encourages careers in employee justice.

Mark Rudy Mediators’ Match fundraising campaign

Launched a targeted fundraising challenge in which employment mediators donate proceeds (or the plaintiffs’ share) from a day’s mediation to FAIR to support diversity recruitment and fellowships.
