About CRESCENT COVE
Crescent Cove operates a residential respite and pediatric hospice home on Twin Lake in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, providing 24-hour skilled nursing care, therapeutic activities, and family support to children and young adults (ages 0–21) with life-limiting conditions. The organization’s Home, opened in May 2018, is Minnesota’s first facility of its kind and was developed to provide short-term respite stays and end-of-life care in a home-like setting.
Services are provided to families at no out-of-pocket cost and are funded through philanthropy and public reimbursement mechanisms; Crescent Cove also conducts education and advocacy (including an annual Pediatric Palliative Care Symposium) to expand access to pediatric hospice and respite services in the region. The organization maintains public financial disclosures and annual audits and continues to expand partnerships and funding streams to meet regional need.
Notable achievements
Opened residential pediatric respite & hospice home (2018)
Crescent Cove opened its Respite & Hospice Home for Kids in May 2018 as the first facility of its kind in Minnesota and one of the first children’s hospice homes in the United States, offering overnight stays and round-the-clock nursing care in a five-bedroom home.
Medicaid reimbursement for respite (2021)
Beginning in 2021 Crescent Cove began accessing Medicaid reimbursement dollars to help pay for respite stays, reducing reliance on philanthropy and increasing financial sustainability for serving families.
Legislative win for end-of-life reimbursements (2023)
In 2023 state legislation was approved enabling homes like Crescent Cove to access funding for end-of-life care for families on Medical Assistance, expanding access for families who otherwise could not afford residential end-of-life services.
