About THE BOND BETWEEN PC

The Bond Between (formerly Secondhand Hounds) is a Minnesota-based 501(c)(3) animal well-being organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes dogs and cats while also supporting people who need help keeping their pets. Founded in 2009, the organization has grown from a traditional rescue into a multi-program nonprofit operating adoption and foster networks, a community pet food shelf, tribal wellness clinics, respite foster care, and a veterinary clinic. The organization emphasizes keeping people and pets together through direct services (pet food shelf, community clinics, respite foster care), targeted tribal partnerships, and specialty medical and hospice care for animals. In recent years The Bond Between has expanded community-facing programs and partnerships, distributed large volumes of pet food to families in need, and presented its work at national animal welfare gatherings.

Notable achievements

Lives saved

Since its founding in 2009, The Bond Between has rescued more than 36,000 dogs and cats, growing from a small rescue into a large regional animal-wellbeing organization.

Pet Food Shelf impact (2023)

In 2023 the organization distributed over 348,000 pounds of pet food and litter, serving an average of about 2,300 animals per month through its Minneapolis pet food shelf to prevent pet relinquishment due to financial hardship.

Tribal wellness clinics

Through its Tribal Partnerships Program (operating since 2017) The Bond Between has provided annual wellness clinics, funding spay/neuter surgeries and vaccines that support over 1,000 animals per year and roughly 200 spay/neuter surgeries annually in partner communities.
